A battery case is only as good as the assumptions behind it.

Almost every battery model a client brings us was produced by someone holding a position in the outcome. Suppliers model to justify a system size. Optimisers model to win the trading mandate. Developers model to reach financial close. The arithmetic is usually correct. The assumptions are the sales pitch.
Arc models on the same class of platform the commercial and industrial market runs on, because the software is not what makes a model credible. What makes it credible is who sets the tariff assumption, the cycle count, the availability figure and the degradation curve, and whether that person has anything to gain from the answer. Arc charges the consultancy fee and holds no equipment relationship and no share of trading revenue.
A battery model from Arc tells you whether the case survives a pessimistic set of assumptions, what power rating and duration actually fit your load, what the asset costs across its whole life once degradation and replacement are counted, and what the right next step is. Including, when the evidence supports it, a smaller battery, a later battery, or no battery.

Every battery engagement covers four core dimensions. We adjust scope and depth to the asset, the connection position, and the decision being made.

Dispatch and savings modelling

Half-hourly modelling across a full year against your actual load and your actual tariff, not annual averages or a standard load profile. Power rating, energy capacity, C-rate, round-trip efficiency and depth of discharge are treated as variables to be optimised, not vendor defaults to be accepted. Behind the meter the value sits in peak shaving, DUoS red band avoidance, capacity charge reduction, time shifting on-site solar that would otherwise export at a poor rate, and resilience where the site puts a value on it. Where a PPA or an existing generation asset is already in place, the battery is modelled inside that arrangement rather than alongside it.

Degradation and whole-life cost

The cycle count the model actually calls for, tested against the warranty rather than assumed to sit inside it. Capacity retention and throughput limits, the year in which augmentation or replacement capex lands, and the opex the case has to carry: O&M, insurance, metering, auxiliary load and any optimiser or platform fee. Round-trip losses are costed rather than rounded away.

Financial returns and funding route

Payback, IRR and NPV over the asset life, with scenarios for capex, tariff movement, availability and consumption change. Balance sheet, lease and PPA-funded structures modelled on a consistent basis so the comparison is real. Written in the language of investment committee papers, not engineering reports.

Grid, planning and safety

DNO capacity review, import and export limits, G99 position, and where the site sits in the connection queue following the December 2025 reform. Planning and safety constraints identified early: separation distances, fire safety and emergency access, noise assessment, flood risk. These are the issues that move a battery programme by quarters, and they cost far less to find before commitment than after.

Arc earns the consultancy fee and nothing else. No supplier margin on cells or containers. No share of trading revenue. No introducer fee from an optimiser or a funder. Where Arc runs a supplier or optimiser selection, it is run as a scored procurement exercise on your behalf, not as a referral.

Battery storage is marketed by revenue stacking: arbitrage, grid services, demand charge savings, and co-location with other generation. How those revenue streams will actually add up, in practice, using actual supply-demand values and site restrictions is rarely properly modelled upfront. Half-hourly dispatch, tariff and financial modelling on established commercial platforms, not in a spreadsheet assembled for the occasion. We confirm the specific toolset in the engagement scope so your own advisers can check it, and the assumptions are set out in the deliverable rather than buried in the model. The difference between our output and a supplier's is not the software. It is that we have nothing to sell you.
Twelve months of half-hourly consumption data, your current supply contract and agreed capacity, a site single line diagram, and details of any existing or planned generation. Recent bills are useful and can be read directly into the model. With half-hourly data we can model to investment grade. Without it we can produce a screening view, but it will be flagged as indicative and should not be taken to committee.
Our core work is behind-the-meter and co-located storage, where the value is in avoided cost and it can be evidenced from your own data. Where a project has an export position worth trading, we model wholesale and grid service revenue as a separate scope, and we are explicit about how much of the return depends on a traded price forecast rather than on your tariff. If a case only works on optimistic spread assumptions, we say so.
Two to three weeks from instruction and receipt of data for a single site. Co-located schemes and multi-site programmes typically take four to eight weeks, depending on the number of sites and the quality of the data available.
Yes. The independence that makes the advice worth having means we will tell you when the case fails, when it rests on an assumption we would not underwrite, or when the sensible answer is to defer until the connection position or the tariff structure changes. The fee buys an honest answer.
If the case holds, Arc can continue into procurement, supplier selection and project delivery, and into asset management and performance tracking once the battery is operational. If it does not hold, we say so. If a different specialist is the right next step, we make the referral.
